An increasing number of electric vehicles on the market are competitively priced and can go over 100 miles on a charge. This workshop will start with a brief ride around the parking lot in a plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt. Participants will learn about EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs available\, their features and range\, big incentives that bring down their purchase price\, charging an EV and matching the right EV and charger with your driving habits and needs. SUMMARY:Two Hands Hold the Earth: A Family Concert with Sarah Pirtle
DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning musician Sarah Pirtle for a fun family concert this spring! A favorite with Hitchcock staff\, Sarah’s music connects children with nature using beautiful harmonies\, varying instruments and often multiple languages. Bring your family! There will be room for dancing and a chance to see Sarah’s instruments! Space is limited. \nSarah Pirtle brings songs for children that amplify the very principles we teach at the Hitchcock Center. Sarah performs primarily on the guitar\, and also mountain dulcimer\, and wooden flute. She is a ten-time national award-winning musician as well as a graduate school teacher of music at Lesley University who is a nationally recognized expert on supporting schools with social skills. \nSarah Pirtle\, MEd\, has provided over a hundred residencies for public schools spanning seven states. She received the Magic Penny Award for lifetime achievement in children’s music\, citing the international impact of her songs. As a trainer for Equity Institute and Communities she has helped create undoing racism songs and conversations. The latest of her five books is Better Together: Caring and Including instead of Bullying\, K-6th. Sarah stands out for her kindness and receptivity\, and for embodying the spirit of inclusive community. She has been involved since 1981 in fostering unlearning racism by leading trainings and in her educational books. She creates a memorable experience of lasting interconnection. Six of her songs were chosen for Pete Seeger’s songbook on ecology songs including “My Roots Go Down\,” and “The Mahogany Tree” which have been part of Hitchcock Center Programs. DESCRIPTION:Join the Hitchcock Center and the Massachusetts Forest Rescue Campaign in this Forests and Climate Change Series. \nSpecializing in cataloging “Old Growth” trees and forests\, in this talk\, commemorating the UN Day of Forest\,s (March 21) Bob Leverett\, will share his new methodology and research used to measure the amount of CO2 stored in each tree. Founder of the Native Tree Society and President of Friends of Mohawk Trail State Forests\, among other honorable affiliations\, Bob speaks with great appreciation and understanding of the enormity of the task before us to save forests and protect forest communities from commercial exploitation. You won’t want to miss this entertaining and informative talk. \nwith Bob Leverett\nWednesday\, March 28\, 7-8:30pm\nDonations and registration appreciated \nBob Leverett is the co-founder of the Native Tree Society\, co-founder and President of Friends of Mohawk Trail State Forest\, chairperson for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Forest Reserves Scientific Advisory Committee\, the co-author of the American Forests Champion Tree-Measuring Guidelines handbook. He is also co-author of several books including the Sierra Club Guide to Ancient Forests of the Northeast. Educated as an engineer\, Bob is a recognized expert in the science of measuring trees for both science and sport. His association with old-growth forest discoveries and confirmations dates to the middle 1980s. This compelling interest placed him in the center of the early old growth preservation movements\, which continue to this day.
