Dinosaurs were one of the dominant groups of animals on Earth for 140 million years – that’s 700 times longer than modern humans have existed! Our class will take a journey from dinosaur’s humble beginnings as dog-sized predators\, through their glory days when herbivores the size of a house battled with hungry carnivores longer than a school bus\, all the way to their sudden extinction. Through outdoor activities\, crafts\, games and field trips we’ll become familiar with the amazing variety of dinosaur groups\, become detectives of life past as we learn the techniques of paleontology\, and examine the evidence of dinosaurs that lived right here in western Massachusetts. \nOnline registration opens Tuesday\, June 16. DESCRIPTION:with the Caterpillar Lab from Keene\, New Hampshire \nJoin the folks from the Caterpillar Lab and see their collection of butterfly and moth caterpillars. They’ll display them on tables in our classroom for all to see up close. You’ll observe cool camouflage\, warning coloration\, spikey spines\, horns and false eyes! And you might even smell some new smells! The variety of adaptations will inspire you about the diversity of our natural world.  Each larva will be eating its specific host food plant. And you’ll see photos of the butterflies and moths that emerge from these curious beauties! You’ll delve more deeply into the world of butterflies and moths.

In a mixed-age setting\, we explore cool topics at the Hitchcock Center\, meet science experts\, and sometimes go on field trips. Our Discovery Day programs are appropriate for everyone from first time to veteran homeschoolers\, and we welcome almost-6 year olds who are interested in joining our class in the spring. \nWater is wonderful! Today we’ll learn about H20\, from raindrop to reservoir. We’ll follow a drop of water on its journey through the water cycle\, explore the properties of water\, and discover just how important it is to conserve water in our everyday lives! \nOnline registration opens Tuesday\, June 16.
