DESCRIPTION:Christmas Bird Count for Kids and Families\nSponsored by Hampshire Bird Club \nSunday\, December 18\nAll ages\, especially kids ages 3-12 with their families\n1 – 3pm\nFree\, registration appreciated \nDo you want to learn more about birds? Would you like to contribute to science? Join birdwatchers all over America in the Christmas Bird Count (CBC)! \nThe CBC is a 122-year old event in which bird lovers of all ages and skill levels count all the birds they see in a 24-hour period in December. At this program\, there will be something for everyone. We’ll meet at the Hitchcock Center for an indoor program about how to recognize common birds and a story about the history of the Christmas Bird Count. Afterwards\, families who are interested may participate in an outdoor bird count\, with ID help by Hampshire Bird Club members at the Hitchcock Center bird feeders and beyond. We’ll count every bird we see! Younger participants may decorate “eye focusers” and hit the trails for a self-guided bird scavenger hunt (with paper birds!). Stay as long as you wish. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to a real bird census! \nThis event is rain\, slow\, sleet or shine. Families may stay and count birds for as much time as they wish but we recommend that you arrive on time for the indoor portion in order to get introduced to the common winter species we are likely to see. Binoculars are welcome but not required.

Deliberation matters because democracy depends on community members coming together and making well-thought-out decisions on what we can do together to solve tough problems like climate change. A pre-reading will frame the issue\, lay out several approaches based on values people care about\, describe benefits and trade-offs associated with each choice\, and pose some reflective questions. In small groups\, participants will have an opportunity to share their personal perspectives and listen to others\, weigh options and wrestle with trade-offs\, and identify areas of common ground. A moderator will help to set ground rules\, ensure that all perspectives are heard\, and identify areas of agreement and uncertainty. DESCRIPTION:Forest Bathing \nSunday\, October 30\, 2:00-4:00pm \nNovember 13\, 2:00-4:00pm  \nSpace is limited and registration is required\, Sliding scale $25\, $30\, $35 per class \nREGISTER HERE \nForest and Nature Therapy Walks \nThere is a quiet pulse to the fall forest\, as the trees and landscape turn inward and prepare for winter.  It is darker earlier; the leaves fall – creating spontaneous collages on the forest floor and the trees reveal their winter forms. Come experience this changing of the seasons on a Forest Bathing walk with Todd Lynch\, certified ANFT Forest Bathing guide. Forest Bathing offers the opportunity to slow down. It re-aligns our rhythms with the landscape\, allowing our senses a respite from everyday demands and uncertainties\, and gives us a template to practice on our own time at home. It’s a chance to remember ourselves and the joyful relationships that await us outside. Come experience what the Forest at the Hitchcock Center might share on this 2 hour experience \nWhat to Expect: \nA leisurely walk of about a mile with stops along the way where we will gather and sit. The walk will be planned in a way to promote safe physical distancing of 6 feet or more between participants. We will focus on our senses to develop an immediate connection with the forest. This is a very relaxed\, slow\, and mindful way of being in nature. The walk should last about 2 hours and we will finish with an herbal tea made from Todd’s organic herb garden. \nAbout Todd: \nTodd Lynch is an artist\, garden designer and Forest Bathing guide. His passion is to connect people to the world around them through art\, plants\, beauty and immersion into nature. DESCRIPTION:Winter Forest Bathing at the Hitchcock Center \nWith Todd Lynch\nSaturday\, February 12\, 2pm – 4:30pm \nand/or Saturday\, March 19\, 2pm – 4:30pm\n$25 per class\nREGISTER HERE \nCome experience a guided Forest therapy walk with Todd Lynch\, certified ANFT guide. Forest and Nature Therapy offers us the opportunity to slow down. It re-aligns our rhythms with the landscape\, allowing our senses a respite from everyday demands and uncertainties. It’s a chance to remember our connections to nature and the joyful relationships that await us outside. This guided experience is not a hike or naturalist adventure\, but an opportunity to slow down and allow our bodies to engage all of our senses. Please note that this is not “therapy” as commonly denoted in our culture\, but an offering of a therapeutic way to be in nature. Guides are not trained clinicians; they hold the space to let the forest be the “therapist”. \nWhat to Expect: \nA leisurely walk of about a mile with stops along the way where we will gather and sit. We’ll all wear our masks when we gather together and the walk will be planned in a way to promote safe physical distancing of 6 feet or more between participants. \nWe will focus on our senses to develop an immediate connection with the forest. This is a very relaxed\, slow\, and mindful way of walking. The walk should last about 2-2.5 hours and we will finish with a gathering circle where we can share about our experiences..

Plum Island.  Waterfowl\, Egrets\, Shorebirds and maybe a lingering Snowy Owl?\n\n\nMay 7 – 7AM-12PM. Local.  Warbler migration starting to ramp up. We’ll visit local areas in Amherst.\n\n\nMay 21 – 6:30AM-12PM. Mt.Holyoke We’ll hike up the main road to the Summit House. Nesting Cerulean and Worm-eating Warblers will be our goal.\n\n\nMay 28th– 5:30AM-12PM.  Southwick WMA. We visited this area for the first-time last spring. DESCRIPTION:Winter Forest Bathing at the Hitchcock Center \nWith Todd Lynch\nSaturday\, February 12\, 2pm – 4:30pm \nand/or Saturday\, March 19\, 2pm – 4:30pm\n$25 per class\nREGISTER HERE \nCome experience a guided Forest therapy walk with Todd Lynch\, certified ANFT guide. Forest and Nature Therapy offers us the opportunity to slow down. It re-aligns our rhythms with the landscape\, allowing our senses a respite from everyday demands and uncertainties. It’s a chance to remember our connections to nature and the joyful relationships that await us outside. This guided experience is not a hike or naturalist adventure\, but an opportunity to slow down and allow our bodies to engage all of our senses. Please note that this is not “therapy” as commonly denoted in our culture\, but an offering of a therapeutic way to be in nature. Guides are not trained clinicians; they hold the space to let the forest be the “therapist”. \nWhat to Expect: \nA leisurely walk of about a mile with stops along the way where we will gather and sit. We’ll all wear our masks when we gather together and the walk will be planned in a way to promote safe physical distancing of 6 feet or more between participants. \nWe will focus on our senses to develop an immediate connection with the forest. This is a very relaxed\, slow\, and mindful way of walking. The walk should last about 2-2.5 hours and we will finish with a gathering circle where we can share about our experiences..
